Annual Events And Key Competitions
JANUARY
CAPTAIN’S DRIVE IN - Come and support your incoming Captain’s Drive In on New Years Day. All members and guests welcome from 12pm. Drive In is at approximately 2pm.
BUCHANAN TROPHY – The Champion of Champions Cup. All winners of competitions complete for this major cup and have a drink after.
FEBRUARY
B.G CUP - A Stableford competition open to all members, 18 holes on either Saturday, Sunday or Monday.
RABBITS CUP - A Stableford competition for handicaps only. 18 holes on Saturday, Sunday or Monday.
MARCH
AGM - Your chance to air your views and opinions, and vote in future committee members. Your support for this evening is greatly appreciated. Start time 7:30 pm.
DR LAMBERTS CUP - A Stableford competition open to all members. 18 holes on Saturday, Sunday or Monday.
APRIL
LOMBARD QUALIFIER - To qualify you need to enter the monthly medal. 18 holes medal on Saturday, Sunday or Monday.
EASTER OPEN - The first big gathering of the year. The format is 4 Ball Better Ball Stableford. Look for sheets in the clubhouse during March.
O’DELL TROPHY - A competition over Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
MAY
NAPGC QUALIFIER - Firstly you need to compete in the monthly medal. If you finish high enough you will have the chance to represent HPGC in the National Association of Public Golf Courses regional final. Do well there and you could end up playing in the National finals at St Andrews!!
CHARITY TEXAS SCRAMBLE - This competition is played as teams of 4 playing 18 holes of Texas Scramble. You need to enter early in the club house lobby or by filling in a form. A very popular event with all proceeds going to the Captain’s Charity. Visitors welcome, both playing and social.
LAVENDER CUP - Fourball Better Ball Pairs Stableford played over 18 holes on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
INTERSOCIETY COMPETITION - 10 teams competing from various clubs and golf societies. A fun day with lots of banter and guests are more than welcome. Please contact Mick Gallagher for more info.
McNALLY TROPHY - 18 holes Stableford competition over Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
JUNE
HPGC OPEN - 18 holes on the Saturday Stableford. Prizes presented on Sunday evening.
HPGC 36 HOLE OPEN - Played over 36 holes. Lots of prizes for both Gross and Nett . A top 5 competition and considered a major at HPGC.
HPGC PRO-AM - Your chance to play with a professional golfer. Teams of 3 amateurs plus a pro. Sponsors welcome.
MEMORIAL CUP - Remember absent friends. Competition over 18 holes.
JULY
ANCIENT CLUBS TROPHY - The condition of your clubs does not dictate who wins this event. Instead try and win over 18 holes on Saturday, Sunday or Monday.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP - “A MAJOR”. Prizes for best gross and nett. Members who have played in four competitions can enter.
PETER PRATT - The Scratch champion of the day wins this prestigious title.
PHIL HOWARD - The best handicapped golfer on the day wins this cup and a great prize. Enter as early as possible, keep your eye on the board in the lobby during May/June time.
SENIORS OPEN – Usually played on a Wednesday in July.
AUGUST
AM – AM - Another major day at Harefield. 40 teams consisting of 1 x 0-5 handicap and 3 other team members compete over 18 holes, with best 2 scores to count. A definite for friends and family with lots of other things going on including a big summer BBQ. If you need help getting a low handicapper speak to Joe Gallagher.
JOE MACK TROPHY - 18 hole Stableford Saturday, Sunday and Monday
CAPTAINS DAY - One of the biggest days of the year. 18 holes on a Sunday with lots of prizes, fun and a must for the family. It is extremely important that all prize winners attend the evening presentation or you could lose your prize.
BASS TROPHY - The Hillingdon Borough’s equivalent to the Ryder Cup. A team of 24 from Harefield, Ruislip and Haste Hill compete over 18 holes. Best 8 scores to count. To guarantee selection, finish in the top ten in the club championship Nett competition or be subject to a wild card selection from the Captain.
SEPTEMBER
SCRATCH MATCH PLAY - To qualify you need a strong performance in the club championship Scratch event. Then play head to head Scratch with the best players in the club. A great one for big surprises and a good competition to win!!
SECRETARY’S CUP - Played over Saturday, Sunday and Monday, another chance to get your name on the board.
OCTOBER
ALAN EELES CUP - Everyone that has represented the club in a competitive or friendly match plays in an 18 hole medal format competition. Keep your eyes open as you will need to check on the board a few weeks before and tick your name accordingly. A friendly competition fixed tee off times and good social gathering after.
NOVEMBER
CORAL CHALLENGE TROPHY - 18 holes Stableford played over Saturday, Sunday or Monday.
WINTER ECLECTIC - Don’t miss the start to Harefield’s endurance test. Played over 9 rounds. You need to get your best score on all 18 holes and take off half your handicap. The key is to birdie as many different holes as possible.
DECEMBER
TURKEY TROT - A fun event to save you going to Tescos to get your Turkey, why not win one. 18 holes Stableford look on board for entry sheet late November.
COMPETITIONS RUNNING THROUGH THE YEAR
There are a number of knockouts played for during the summer and winter months, both individual and pairs. Keep your eyes on the noticeboard for more information.
GALLAGHER/GALE CUP – New in 2004
Points award in primary golf competitions between May and October. Winner effectively becomes player of the year.
